“Blasphemy”, you may be thinking. “How can you say that Jesus is like a Lays potato chip? Comparing Christ to a snack food is heresy.” But the spirit in which I mean it, I know Jesus gets it. The more time I spend with God in His word, the more I want of Him. That’s why I say that Jesus is like a Lays potato chip. Some people find sweets irresistible and some like salty snacks. I’m in the latter group. I can’t stop eating Lays potato chips once I get started, and lately it’s the same with Christ and my Bible.
I know many people that profess to believe in and love God. However, they are scared silly to go deeper with Him. Are you afraid to invest in living the Christian life because you fear it will be stuffy and boring? Are you worried about what you will have to give up? A life with Christ at the center of it is anything but boring. And I can assure you that you won’t miss anything that you give up.
God only asks you to give up things that are hurting you. Things like bitterness, resentment, unforgiveness and self-pity. In return He gives you the peace that surpasses understanding and more joy than you can imagine. He blesses you and everything that you put your hand to if it lines up with his will. By that I mean He won’t answer your prayers to say, have your competition go out of business or have a married person that you are attracted to get a divorce.
If it’s Biblical and God knows that you are ready to handle it, it’s yours. Everything He promises in His word is yours for the taking.
Being a Christian is so exciting. Living for God is the best thrill ride you will ever experience.
He never stops amazing me. He continually blesses me by doing little things that mean a lot. He reveals how much He loves me by arranging things that build me up and give me strength when I need it most. Many people completely miss their blessings by writing them off as coincidence. I don’t believe in coincidence. I believe that God has a plan for your life and if you let Him, He will work it out for your happiness and His glory. And if you pay attention you will be continually amazed.
When the checker at the store just happens to have a coupon that saves you 10% on your purchase, do you think it’s just your lucky day? When a vision pops into your head of where you left your missing keys after you spent hours looking for them do you think it’s a fluke? When you need a word of encouragement and a person that has gone through the same pain you are experiencing just happens to strike up a conversation with you, do you call it happenstance? God and his guardian angels are blessing and looking out for His children constantly.
Do me a favor. Start a blessing journal. Start jotting down the little things that happen that make your life easier or lift your spirits just when you need it. Keep track of the times when you find favor with just the right person at just the right time. Or when a parking spot opens up in front of the grocery store just as you are pulling in. And thank God for those small blessings. As you start to take notice you may be amazed by how blessed you really are.
Something happens when you start looking for the good things and getting your mind off of the bad. Life gets better. You will be more joyful and much more at peace. You will find that you are in a perpetually good mood. People will start to notice how happy and pleasant you are and it will lift their spirits.
Let me tell you folks. Life is so much better with Jesus at the helm. Before I renewed my relationship with Christ, I was so busy looking for the negative that I couldn’t see the positive things right under my nose. I’ve got a relationship with Christ now, not a religion. I feel free to ask Him for anything. I ask God for a good hair day or the great parking spot I mentioned earlier. I thank him constantly for those things too. I give Him credit for every good thing in my life. I also know that when bad things happen, and they will, He will get me through them. Give a close and personal relationship with Christ a try. If you are anything like me you will find that Jesus is like a Lays potato chip. The more you have of Him the more of Him you want.
If you don’t know how to have a relationship with Christ I’ll tell you how easy it is. This simple prayer is all you need. God I need you. I believe that you sent your son Jesus to die on the cross for my sins. I invite you into my heart. I ask you to forgive my sins and give me a clean slate and a new start. Thank you Lord. Amen
