My husband and I have been members of the YMCA for about eight months now and the benefits have well surpassed the very reasonable cost. I’m thrilled that my husband has finally been inspired to exercise, if only once a week. I’m even more thrilled with our favorite trainer, Kristie’s classes. She is a powerhouse of inspiration and gets me to do things I sometimes consider impossible. She is by far the best trainer I have ever worked with. One of the things I love most about her is that she gets right in there and works with the group, sweating and suffering just like we are. Her classes are always challenging, which causes me to leave the YMCA with a fantastic feeling of accomplishment.
If I’m going to be completely honest, I have to admit to checking the clock and praying that the torture will end soon. At 55 I can’t do what I used to do. That is another great thing about Kristie’s classes; you can go at your own pace. While she’s hopping over the steps at breakneck speed, I’m going half as fast with my heart racing. And that’s the point. If my heart rate is up, I’m burning calories. I may not be working as hard as the thirty year old next to me but I’m getting just as many benefits from the workout as she is.
If you are one of those people who has been procrastinating about starting a workout program I would encourage you to check out Hollister’s YMCA. They have state-of-the-art equipment, great trainers with many classes from boot camp to yoga and a very friendly and helpful staff. The fact that your money is going to an organization with solid family values is an extra bonus. Today they are having a Healthy Kid’s Day Camp from 10:00 – 1:00. Stop by and check it out. Do yourself and your family a favor and join the YMCA and get physically active.
