I’m Charisse Tyson author, Christian Freedom Coach, and past owner of the iconic biker bar, Johnny’s Bar & Grill, in Hollister, California.
My memoir, Born Again in a Biker Bar is about the challenges I faced as a Christian woman, bar owner and codependent who was married to an alcoholic. When people shared with me how much my book helped them, I decided that I needed to do more. As a Christian Freedom Coach, I help those struggling with the same debilitating issues I once did. With my support, prayer, and some hard work, you can find freedom from codependent behavior more quickly.
In January of 2002, on the brink of divorce, I embraced the spiritual roots that I’d long neglected. With God’s help, I came to understand that my codependency had not only destroyed my marriage, but it had enabled my husband to sink further into his disease. My hope is that in sharing our story and through my coaching I can help others who deal with the same condition.
I’m not where I need to be but thank God I’m not where I used to be. ~ Joyce Meyer
My husband Tommy and I have been together for more almost twenty-eight years. By the grace of God, he has been sober for over eleven of those. I still own and run Johnny’s, but when the right buyer comes along I’ll graciously leave my historic bar and devote my life to coaching and writing full time.
I am dedicated to mentoring and counseling those that struggle with codependency and control issues. Do you have a loved one who is an alcoholic or an addict? Are you trying to change them through coercion or hoping that if they love you enough they will quit? Are you controlling and manipulative?
It wasn’t easy for me to answer yes to those questions but as Jesus said in John 8:32, “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” I can tell you from experience that freedom feels fantastic and denial is crippling. I want other codependents to know the freedom and peace that I now enjoy.
